CAP’s My Practice program has received several calls from CAP members about COVID vaccine reimbursement and denials, as there has been much confusion on how to bill. As if the pandemic hasn’t been stressful enough due to income loss and other challenges, billing has become even more difficult to navigate.

Since 2009, when health plans had to comply with the law, patients and/or healthcare professionals can request that a qualified medical interpreter be available either in-person or through a telephone or video conferencing system.

The following information is being provided to California medical practices to assist in navigating the August 5, 2021 Order by the California Department of Public Health requiring all healthcare employees be vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 30, 2021.

In her hit song, Aretha Franklin said, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me;” however, we have come to a time in our society when many of us do not know and understand the meaning of respect.

CAP’s recommendations for complying with the order are as follows:

CAP has compiled a series of employer guidelines and resources to help physicians navigate uncertain employment issues arising from the COVID-19 crisis. Physicians, in their role as employers, may be dealing with many challenging issues including, among others, the need to downsize their practice due to decreased patient visits, alternative and adjusted work schedules, or employees who become sick or are caring for sick family members

On and after January 1, 2022, healthcare practitioners authorized to issue prescriptions must do so by electronic data transmission means, and pharmacies must be able to accept and process a Rx electronically transmitted.  The failure to comply with these provisions requires referral to the licensing board for administrative sanctions.

The elections for the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP) Board of Directors and for the Mutual Protection Trust (MPT) Board of Trustees are currently underway—and the July 21st annual meeting date is fast approaching!
