WPAC, which is committed to the mentorship and advancement of women in medicine, each year celebrates Los Angeles-area female physicians and healthcare champions who have made noteworthy contributions to the field. This year, both Mses. Pacini and Belcher have been selected as recipients of WPAC’s “Outstanding Leadership — Providing Inspiration and Support for the Women of LACMA” in recognition of not only their impressive respective career trajectories, but also their ongoing efforts to promote the professional development of California’s female physicians. They are to be honored during WPAC’s Celebration of Women in Medicine Awards Luncheon, which will take place on September 16 in downtown Los Angeles.

The Cooperative of American Physicians offers a wide range of invaluable services and resources to physicians across all specialties, enabling them to focus on the provision of superior patient care. Under the innovative leadership of Mses. Pacini and Belcher, CAP has enhanced and expanded its offerings to reflect the nascent needs of its members and their affiliates.

Ms. Pacini’s background encompasses deep expertise in healthcare policy and law, patient safety, captive insurance, claims and risk management. Since 2015, she has overseen CAP’s core businesses – MPT and the CAPAssurance Risk Purchasing Group – which provide access to superior medical professional liability protection, patient safety education, and risk management services. In addition, she serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Cooperative of American Physicians Insurance Company, Inc. (CAPIC) and was recently named Chair of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA).

“As a longtime champion and advocate for various stakeholders in the healthcare system, we have been fortunate enough to bear witness to some of the incredible work that is undertaken by California’s physician leaders on a daily basis,” said Ms. Pacini. “This award is a considerable honor, and reaffirms CAP’s commitment to ensuring their success.”

Ms. Belcher joined CAP in 1999 and, having since ascended the ranks to her current position as Chief Operating Officer, has been instrumental in augmenting the organization’s value proposition. Ms. Belcher oversees enterprise business development, the Mutual Protection Trust (MPT), human resources, marketing and corporate communications, and the CAP Physicians Insurance Agency. She is also President and COO of CAPIC.

She added: “CAP, like LACMA, is dedicated to the empowerment and education of healthcare providers as they navigate a rapidly evolving and oftentimes challenging domain. We look forward to advancing our shared vision of ensuring that physicians are optimally equipped to focus on the provision of exceptional patient care.”

In addition to Mses. Pacini and Belcher, four others are being honored: Ruth Haskins, MD and President of the California Medical Association (Rose Talbot Bullard Award – Woman Physician Champion and Trailblazer); Karen Miotto, MD, FASAM (Excellence in Physician Advocacy); Marcy Zwelling-Aamot, MD (Lifetime Service to Organized Medicine); and Stacy Songco, MD, M.P.P.
