The Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP) is owned and governed by the finest doctors practicing in the State of California. We understand your concerns and challenges with things like professional liability coverage because we are also physicians.
But there is more that awaits those physicians who are accepted into membership. CAP is an organization that equips its members with the best tools to help meet the business challenges related to running a medical practice.
How We Benefit Physician Members
Medical professional liability coverage (commonly referred to as “medical malpractice” coverage”) can cost a great deal but, through the Mutual Protection Trust, CAP provides this important protection to its physician members at more cost-efficient rates.
The Mutual Protection Trust (MPT) is our core product. It is only available to members of CAP. Established in 1977, MPT is now considered a benchmark in the California medical professional liability industry. Our MPT product provides protection to more than 11,000 California physicians. The financial strength of the company is so outstanding that it has earned an A+ (Superior) rating from A.M. Best Company for six consecutive years. No other physician-owned company in the nation can make this claim.
We also pride ourselves on being an organization that offers doctors the best tools to meet the business challenges related to running a medical practice. We work diligently to help doctors avoid risk and improve patient safety through in-office risk management education, practice risk assessments, and arbitration implementation guidance provided by our experienced Risk Management & Patient Safety Department.
Through CAP Physicians Insurance Agency, Inc. (CAP Agency), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc., we protect your practice and you by offering tailored insurance programs for risks not protected by medical professional liability coverage.
We welcome those of you who are here to learn more about CAP and its products and services. We welcome back the superior physicians who are existing CAP members.
