Description

Physicians involved in medical malpractice litigation experience stress from the litigation process which impacts their practice and potentially their family and may even diminish the prospects of a successful outcome to their case. The toll medical malpractice litigation takes on the physician and other healthcare professionals is significant and the untold story in many malpractice cases.  Many times, one lawsuit is followed closely by another due to physician stress over the first claims and change in practice.  CAP believes that physicians who know more about the litigation process will perform better as an integral part of their defense team, will better understand that being sued the first time can increase the risk of change in the way they care for patients and may result in patient injury and being sued again. Removing the stigma associated with being sued can lead to increased well-being among physician members of CAP.  Clinicians need to recognize their vulnerability to litigation stress and actively seek the support they need.
