By the completion of this lecture, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss the issues most often seen in professional liability lawsuits.
- Identify medical conditions that are most prone to diagnostic error.
- Discuss the physician-patient relationship and the role the physician plays as a patient advocate.
- Discuss the guidelines for informed consent.
- Identify systems that help prevent patient injury.
- Identify current and evolving risks in medicine.
- Formulate informed consent discussions that appropriately address culture and/or language barriers.
