California Legislative Update

California’s 2026 legislative session is advancing several health policy proposals that could directly impact physician practices and medical groups across the state. Key proposals and enacted measures address licensing reforms, scope-of-practice issues, credentialing practices, and increasing oversight of private equity involvement in physician practices.

At the same time, anticipated state budget shortfalls tied to federal legislation passed last July are expected to intensify competition for limited General Fund dollars, potentially shaping health care policy priorities and funding decisions in Sacramento.

This presentation will provide medical group leaders with an overview of the most significant legislative developments, discuss the broader fiscal environment influencing health policy, and highlight the operational and compliance considerations practices should be monitoring as the 2026 session progresses.
