Risk Management & Patient Safety Services -- A Benefit of Membership

Our Risk Management & Patient Safety Department is dedicated to educating members regarding the best practices to promote patient safety and reduce medical liability and other liability risks. The department focuses on member's medical office systems for patient care and safety, as well as other aspects of the physician-patient relationship.

The Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. is accredited by the California Medical Association (CMA) as a provider of continuing medical education and has received the CMA's distinguished Samuel R. Sherman Award for meritorious achievement in the field of continuing medical education.

Physician office visits are another component of CAP’s patient safety effort.Our Risk Management & Patient Safety Specialists visit each member’s practice no less than once every three years to provide the latest information and support for the physician and his or her office staff. CAP also uses a patient satisfaction survey which focuses on patient communication and continuity of care and gives the physician feedback about the practice and the physician-patient relationship.

Overall, CAP's risk management and patient safety program provides a unique blend of services designed to help member physicians control the risks inherent in today's practice of medicine, and improve patient safety, thereby mitigating potential claims involving the following activities that are frequent elements of litigation:
